Little Farmer's Hatching Experience

Bring the experience of the farm into your home or classroom with our Little Farmer's Hatch kit! Designed to support hands-on learning and curiosity while building observation skills, patience, and responsibility! Through the process you'll learn;

  • The life cycle of poultry, from egg to hatchling, with a further understanding of growth and development
  • Why temperature, humidity and turning matter during incubation
  • How farmers care for eggs and young poultry
  • The basic needs of hatchlings in their first days of life

Your Experience includes;

  1. 12 chicken eggs or 8 duck eggs
  2. Incubator set up and detailed instructions
  3. Chick/ duckling set up (Hatchlings will stay with you for up to 10 days)
  4. An introduction visit and a visit to do a candling presentation (This is only available within Durham Region and is optional)

*Delivery and pick up within Durham Region is available and included, otherwise pick-up will be required*

Home Sweet Home

After the hatching experience is complete, the chicks (or ducklings) will return to the farm where they will continue to grow in a safe, healthy environment. This is an important part of the learning process, helping participants understand that caring for animals is a long- term responsibility. Learning that animals need proper space  as they grow, with appropriate housing, specialized nutrition  and daily care. Intentionally this reinforces the responsibility associated with owning animals including choosing the best long-term environment for the animal's well-being.
